If you have a length of Polar Fleece, some white felt, and a needle and thread, you're already halfway done this easy winter project.
With the rising costs just to heat our houses, having a blanket or two around near the couches where you watch TV or hang out with a book will help keep you from having to turn up the thermostat when the temperature drops. Here's a great, fast way to make a super-snuggly fleece blanket that's inexpensive but warm:
1) Buy your choice of Polar Fleece® or fleece, cut in a 1 1/2 yard length. Plain works best (I would recommend blue, red, or green).
2) Fringe the edges if desired, cutting slices every 1/2" or so with a ruler and rotary cutter.
3) Fold a 12" square of white felt in half. Fold it in half again.
4) Using sharp scissors, cut a snowflake design out of the white felt (if this seems familiar, it's because you did this in grade school with paper). Unfold.
5) Place the snowflake at one corner of the blanket. Pin or spray baste to fleece. Stitch onto fleece using a blanket stitch or machine stitch of your choice (satin, blanket, zig zag, etc.).
6) Unless you want to add more snowflakes, you're done.
These blankets are so quick and toasty-warm, you'll be sipping your cocoa and sharing a giggle under one with your kids or loved ones in just about an hour (or less!) Make several and give them away as gifts, or use them during the holidays as decorative throws over couches.
