Fast, Warm Winter Set for Little or Big Kids

Need a quick gift? Or maybe you just want to spice up a blah pair of mittens? Here's a great way to show off your stitching skills and make your winter more unique.

1) Make or purchase the hat, gloves or mittens, and scarf. Fleece is a great choice, but knitted wear (closely woven and not made with extremely fluffy or "popcorn" yarn) is also fun. Using knits that are loosely woven will allow the stitches to pop through, so ensure you start with a proper item and begin and end all stitches securely.

2) Use any silk ribbon embroidery pattern. You may chose to use silk ribbon as instructed, or floss such as that used in cross stitch.

3) Using a thin marker, center and copy the pattern onto the fabric or knitted piece.

For hats, use on hatband or in the middle of the hat.

For scarves, stitch pattern at the end of the scarf (before the fringe, if any).

For gloves and mittens, add to top side of cuffs.

4) Stitch with floss first; then use ribbon.

5) Run a needle threaded with floss through the knotted or secured ribbon on the WRONG side of the project to help secure the stitches.
