I recently asked visitors to the site to recommend or submit their own sites that offer unique cross-stitch designs.

I was really excited to hear about StitchCraftDesigns and impressed by the clear presentation of their website, great patterns, and friendly owner. Find out how to get a FREE chart!

Offering downloadable charts made from photographs, drawings, and landscapes, StitchCraftDesigns is owned by designer Gerda McClure. Her catalogue is offered online through a webstore, and new charts are offered regularly. Each section is divided into categories to ensure you find the chart you can tackle: for example, the Christmas charts in "Holidays" are separated by the amount of stitches in the pattern (more than 3500 stitches, or less than 3500). This is great not only for beginners but for those who are crunched for time and need a smaller project to work with.

What makes StitchCraftDesigns different than most other cross stitch project sites is that Gerda McClure takes requests. She will modify one of her current designs, change the project size, or alter the chart to include the floss brand of your choice. She will also create a chart for you from one of your own photographs or images... providing you with a quote before the work is started. She also designs charts for collaborative, charity, and auction works and will create a design to your specifications.

While you can buy and download the pattern right from the site, you can also buy a version that is printed for you.

The patterns themselves are exceptional, with intricate detail and colours. There are, of course, many basic patterns that can be enjoyed by any skill level (from beginner to expert) but to truly enjoy the challenge of a complicated pattern, try one of the more advanced designs. These ones are the treasured heirlooms to be framed and passed through generation to generation.
