...and keep your place at the same time! Use printable fabric sheets, or adhesive fabric sheets, or use scraps, or cut a piece of a much-loved fabric from your stash.
These easy bookmarks are clever and stylish, and when you are away from your sewing, stitching, and quilting they are a reminder of your favourite hobbies. They are also excellent gifts, as you can taylor your fabric choice to suit the recipient, and a message can be written inside or out.
I received one of these bookmarks a few years ago. This one was made with Origami paper, but I've developed my pattern to include fabric. Here's how to make yours:
For Each Bookmark, You Will Need:
- One piece of photo card stock
- Two small adhesive magnets (they don't need to be too powerful)
- Fabric piece: Self-adhesive, or if using printable sheets or regular fabric you'll need some heavy duty fusible web
- Permanent marker (if desired, for message)
Also: Pencil, ruler, scissors or rotary cutter (and self-healing mat if using the latter).
1) Cut the photo card stock into a 2 1/2" by 8"
2a) If using the self-adhesive fabric, cut a 2" by 6" piece (or longer, up to 7", if you wish).
2b) If you're using scraps, favourite fabric, or printer sheets you'll need to pencil a 2" by 6" rectangle on the heavy duty fusible web. Cut out, just outside the pencil lines. Following manufacturer's instructions, iron onto fabric. When cool cut out along pencil lines.
3) Using photo as placement guide, apply (peel and stick, or iron on) to cardstock.
5) Measure halfway down the bookmark; fold, keeping fabric side out.
5) Apply adhesive magnets to inside bottom of bookmark.
6) Optional: Add a personal message, quote, poem, or note to the inside of the bookmark.
To use the bookmark, simply clip it over the page you're leaving, allowing the magnets to "stick" through the paper.
