Choosing the right sewing or quilt pattern isn’t easy. There are so many available. Here are some reviews that can make things easier. These include patterns for pin cushions, pillows, and kids’ quilts.

Quilt Pattern for Kids

Released by JWD Publishing, the Kids’ Night in Quilt pattern is a Christine Porter Quilts design. It features two sizes, including a 41 inch square wall quilt as well as a lap/twin bed quilt.

This kids’ quilt project is perfect for fat quarters. Beginners will love this quick and easy quilt.

For her quilt, the designer chose bright, kid-friendly colors. These frame the dinosaur prints in the centers of the blocks.

Though this patchwork pattern was designed with youth in mind, it is quite versatile. Just substitute colors and prints of your choice for other age groups.

This has a handy list of fabrics and supplies that are needed along with a cutting chart for each size. There are complete, illustrated, step by step, foolproof directions with layouts showing the placement of the blocks.

The pattern walks you through the entire process from making the blocks and assembling the quilt top to doing the quilting and binding.

Indygo Junction Pin Cushion Patterns

Quilters rely on pin cushions. For that reason, these two patterns from Indygo Junction are must-haves. Susan Gower created these lovely designs. One is for patchwork pin cushions, while the other uses computer images printed on fabric.

The Vintage Pin Cushions pattern has seven, exquisite projects in a range of sizes. These include round ones as well as squares and rectangles.

This pattern uses downloadable vintage images from the Vintage Workshop website. These are available free of charge when you purchase the pattern. The promotional code you’ll need for the download is found inside the pattern. Once the designs are printed on inkjet fabric sheets, they’re turned into pin cushions and adorned with lace and buttons.

The Pieced Pin Cushions pattern features six lovely, patchwork pin cushions in assorted shapes and sizes. Among these are round ones, several cubes, and various triangles. They’re beautifully pieced and decorated with buttons. This pattern has full size templates.

Both of these Indygo Junction patterns have lists of the fabrics and supplies that are needed along with complete, illustrated, easy to follow directions from start to finish.

Brownstone Boulevard Pattern

Also from Indygo Junction is this wool design by Marilyn Gash. This pattern features a throw pillow as well as a sampler. These appealing projects combine wool appliqué and embroidery.

Houses serve as the basic motif for these designs. The oblong pillow, 22 by 15 inches, depicts five houses in a neat row. These appear on a gold background. Contrasting stripes accent the top and bottom of the pillow.

This pattern has full size templates for the appliqués. There are step by step instructions for doing the appliqué and embroidery, and for completing the pillow and sampler.

The exquisite appliquéd house sampler measures nine by eleven inches. It features a house surrounded by trees. Stars highlight the night sky. This pattern includes a complete alphabet of letters for personalizing the sampler with the family name and date. There are also instructions on matting the completed sampler.

For each of these projects, the pattern has full, illustrated directions and a list of the materials and supplies along with suggested colors for the wool.
