Like any textile worker, my workshop is full of boxes of treasures. While to many people this may look like the left overs from a jumble sale with boxes of old clothes, pieces of discarded fabric, felted jumpers etc strewn around, to me this represents an Aladin's cave of delights!
Recent flash flooding resulted in my workshop floor disappearing under water. I had to make some quick decisions and form a plan of action. First I made sure that my sewing and knitting machines were off the floor and everything electrical was unplugged and safe. But what next? I needed to move my spinning wheels as the water would warp them, and I also needed to move my books. After these were safely high and dry I turned my attention to the boxes. Soon these were also moved into a dry barn and no real damage was done. Indeed, rather unkindly some people have commented that my workshop floor has never looked so clean! No real damage was done, although I did miss a box with sewing patterns in them, and although I hung them out to dry, I fear that they beyond repair.
So, assuming of course that children, pets and irreplaceable treasures are safe, what would you save first from your sewing room or workshop? Treasured vintage fabric or unusual sewing patterns, wools and yarns or your book collection? This is an interesting thought to ponder over a cup of coffee!
