Festive sewing projects including embroidery designs, cross stitch kits, quilting ideas and many other Christmas needlecrafts are starting to appear in stores and online.

The build up to Christmas has started and now is the time to start thinking and planning projects.

Christmas is a great time of year for all sorts of needlecrafts. Cross stitch designs make lovely greetings cards, small pieces of embroidery can turned into gifts such as jewelry or used as festive ornaments and there are numerous projects for household accessories such as Christmas table clothes and runners.

It is also a good opportunity to get youngsters involved in crafts. Simple projects are easy to make using craft felt which is a good fabric for beginner sewers.

Over the next few weeks we'll be taking a more in depth look at festive sewing and needlecraft projects.
