Since we've moved, I've gotten things more or less where they need to be (except for the kitchen, which was in bad shape -- we are still living out of boxes and bins for the most part). The bedrooms are unpacked, the clothes are put away, the bathrooms and showers are now functioning and usable. My office is a shambles but my computer is set up, and that's all that really matters, right?
I know that the sewing room is going to be the last on the list, but it's the room we bought this house for. It's huge, with a bay window to write home about, and I'm going to have a cabinet made into a window seat for it (this will also give me more storage space for fabric, ribbon, floss, bobbins, batting, and monk's cloth). In the meantime I think about what would be the best way to set up the perfect crafter's room: a big table, accessible on all sides. A nice-sized self-healing mat, to keep near the sewing machine, with a bin or storage area for the rotary cutter and blades. An ironing board set up and ready to go... one that can be modified to the same height as the table for paper-piecing.
But what else? I've never had my own sewing room before. I sewed and quilted at the dining table; I stitched in the living room; I ironed in the kitchen. The set up and removal of everything was a huge thrill kill, enough to make me put off working on my projects until I could deal with the extra work.
Any ideas for setting up the perfect sewing room, please let me know! I'll be writing an article on it as my own comes together, so your hints and tips will be invaluable not only to me but to everyone who drops by the site. Thanks! :)
