I'm all of the things in the title, and it's not because of the money. I tend to like the things that other people don't want. I have always been this way, from writing everything in highschool with purple felttips to refusing to wear any clothes with a label. I only adopt pets from shelters or families who need to part with them. I shop at second hand stores because I like to see if I can find something worth salvaging in the things people would normally just throw out.
Probably it's because I'm a fan of the familiar. I don't like new experiences too much (although that's changing). I guess I'm just a gal in love with the stuff I've always known that draws me to these places. It's the lure of discovering the books of my childhood, cookie jars from kitchen counters of my past, clothes that remind me of mothers I used to know.
So what's in it for you? Some really cool stuff. I went last week and discovered patterns galore, a few of which I snagged for under 50c apiece. If you're lucky you will find fabric at discount prices, too. Your only commitment is to drop in often to find what you are looking for, because once it's gone it's not like the second hand store can order another one for you.
Each time I get something that I think will inspire you I'll buy it and write another article for you. The latest one is for sewing fanatics and I hope you enjoy it.
